ABOUT DR. LEON
Dr. Dennis Leon earned his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2001. Following his veterinary education, Dr. Leon worked in a busy multi-doctor practice in Hayward, California, where he also served as a veterinary consultant to the City of Hayward Animal Services Bureau, Hayward Animal Shelter, Alameda County Animal Control, and San Leandro Animal Shelter. He moved back to his hometown of New York City in 2004 and worked as a relief veterinarian at several small animal hospitals in Manhattan prior to becoming the medical director at Levittown Animal Hospital in 2005. After a brief stint in Las Vegas in 2015, he relocated to Portland in 2016 and can be found working at several different small animal hospitals throughout the region.
Dr. Leon's professional interests include preventative medicine, anesthesiology, pain management, kidney disease, behavioral medicine and obesity treatment. In 2014, he completed the requirements for becoming a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist via the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in Coral Springs, Florida. Dr. Leon is one of only four veterinarians in Portland (and the only one in Vancouver) to be certified in physical rehabilitation. He has served as director of the Southside Community Center Healthy Pet Clinic, which provides wellness care to pets of low-income families in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Leon has also served on the Board of Directors of For Animals in the Hospital (FAITH), an organization developed to defray the costs of medical care for homeless and abandoned animals. Additionally, Dr. Leon works with the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network, a group of nearly 6,900 alumni volunteers who assist the Cornell admissions community in recruiting superior undergraduate applicants. In 2012, Dr. Leon began teaching third and fourth year veterinary students when the Cornell University Hospital for Animals selected him as the Robert W. Kirk DVM Practitioner-in-Residence.
TESTIMONIALS
“I have been using Dr. Dennis Leon as my primary veterinarian for over 10 years. Dr. Leon has cared for both my cat and dog. I have never experienced a more professional, caring, educated professional than him. He has always provided the best care for my babies. Dr. Leon is not only a professional, but is also a great friend. He has made the task of bringing my babies to the vet so easy. If you're considering finding a new veterinarian for your pets, don't hesitate to choose Dr. Leon. He will amaze you with what professional veterinary services really are supposed to be." ~Ed Youskites, Lindenhurst, NY
Simply stated, Dr. Dennis Leon is the reason my Pomeranian, Jerri, is alive today. When Jerri was 8, the vet treating her informed me that she was in renal failure and pretty much wrote her off. Not willing to give up, I did extensive research on vets in my area, and after several interviews decided to go with Dr. Leon. His veterinary degree from Cornell University, his extensive knowledge of renal disease and his willingness to listen to my concerns were all I needed to decide he was the vet for my Jerri. His proactive approach to treating Jerri was exactly what was needed to get ahead of her disease. It was the best decision I could have made, as she is now 13 and doing extremely well. Of course, due to her age, she has developed other medical issues, but Dr. Leon has always been able to diagnose the problem and take corrective action quickly and decisively. He always includes me in choosing the best treatment option and takes the extra time to explain medications. He even calls personally with test results.
Although I am sad to see him leave New York, I wish only the best for Dr. Leon and envy the lucky pet owners whose pets will benefit from his care.

You are getting the best veterinarian! Dr. Leon always went above and beyond for our dogs. He is a wonderful person, and we are very sad that he is leaving New York -but our loss is your gain. We have never met a veterinarian (or person for that matter) who we feel has treated our dogs like one of their own. He is just wonderful.
Thank you, Dr Leon for all you have done for our puppies. We love you and will miss you very much.

Dr. Leon is a lifesaver. Literally. After many hours of online searching for a new veterinarian to treat my beloved 15 year old cat who had heart disease, diabetes and was in desperate need of a dental cleaning (he had virtually stopped eating), I found Dr. Leon. When he examined my precious Simba and met me for the first time, Dr. Leon listened to me carefully; he was not dismissive or condescending. Instead, his demeanor was confident, kind and gentle. He gained my trust, which generally is not an easy thing to do. Since then, Dr. Leon has cared for my many cats, through healthy times and the times when they no longer could be helped, and he has done so with compassion and professionalism. I have repeatedly brought him cats with very complicated and unique ailments -so much so that we joke that I was placed in his path to keep presenting him with challenges. I cannot recommend Dr. Leon highly enough. I don’t know what my cats or I would have done without him.

Dr. Leon has provided my 5 year old ShiPoo, Louie, with excellent healthcare since he was a puppy. Dr. Leon is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to go above and beyond. He is very innovative, has a great personality and takes the time to listen to you and answer any questions you may have. I have had several pets in the past and have seen many veterinarians, but none have come even close to Dr. Leon's level of care and expertise. I would highly recommend Dr. Leon as I have always felt very comfortable with all of his recommendations.
I am happy to say that Louie is a very happy and healthy boy, and this is due to great care provided by Dr. Leon.
